Wellcome Trust 4-year PhD Interdisciplinary Programme

in Structural, Computational and Chemical Biology

at UCL | Birkbeck | Francis Crick Institute

Eligibility: Wellcome Trust Funded PhD Studentships

There are important differences in residency requirements and stipend

for the studentships available. Applicants should take special note of the eligibility requirements below.

Academic qualifications

All applicants will be required to satisfy standard UCL academic and English language entry criteria, including minimum upper-second class (2.1) honours degree (or overseas equivalent) in a relevant subject.

These studentships are highly sought after and competition for places is high; previous research experience would provide a competitive edge to prospective candidates.

Residence eligibility

Overseas applicants may apply but should note that they are eligible only to receive the maintenance stipend and tuition fees paid at the home/EU rate.

Such applicants will therefore need to fund the difference in fees between the home/EU rate and the overseas rate (a difference of £16,400 per annum for the academic year 2018/19).

Wellcome Trust studentship award details

Successful applicants will receive a generous 4-year Wellcome Trust PhD studentship including:

  • A tax-free maintenance stipend of £22,278 per annum (2018/19 rate)
  • Tuition fees paid in full at the home/EU rate
  • Funding for experimental costs for the duration of the programme
  • Funding for travel costs e.g. to conferences.
