Joint PhD Programme
in Structural, Computational, Cell and Chemical Biology
Funded by the BBSRC
Support and guidance
To ensure that you maximise your scientific potential while at the ISMB, you will be provided with scientific and pastoral support throughout your PhD. The Academic Coordinator for the PhD programme, Dr Carolyn Moores, will be your first point of contact and will facilitate liaison with other members of the ISMB, including the Graduate Tutors in each Department.
Thesis Committee
Together with your PhD project leader, you will form a 4-member Thesis Committee, which will also include your scientific collaborator and a third independent academic. Together you will work to ensure scientific progress through your studies, identify key research landmarks and opportunities, and enable timely completion of your PhD.
Transferable skills training
A comprehensive programme of transferable skills training teaches important skills required for a career in research, and will broaden your scientific experience. Training includes:
- Modern Techniques lectures to discuss the practical aspects of instrumentation and computing for structural molecular biology
- A Principles and Practice in Structural Biology lecture series
- Access to lectures and courses available through the ISMB, or through the Bloomsbury Postgraduate Skills Network
